Rerouting...

June 3, 2019

Yal...I don't know what God was doing up there when He was creating me. I know He used a little sugar, probably over did it with the spice, and though I have my fair share of issues, I'd say overall I turned out pretty nice. It's amazing to know that God saw fit to bless me with so many creative gifts and talents. How-eh-ver. The one gift I KNOW He skipped over all together was a sense of direction. And when I say skipped over, I mean a clean hop, skip and a jump over a sense of direction. I have got to be one of thee most geographically challenge people in the world. It's actually a running joke in my family. Don't ask me about a street name. No, I don't know how far this county is from that one. And please don't expect me to remember your list of directions. I need landmarks people. Land. Marks lol I have absolutely no idea what people were doing before GPS. And You would think GPS would be the answer to my problems. Oh but no. I manage to miss so many turns sometimes, I swear I've heard the voice of google sigh. If she wasn't pre-programmed I'm sure she'd have a few other choice words for me. Yet, no matter how many miss turns and detours I make, I always manage to make it to my destination.

Lately I've been having conversations with creatives who took some time off from their craft and now that they've finally decided to pick it back up, they feel behind. I had to remind them that God already knew they were going to take a hiatus aka detour or wrong turn. He knew how long the detour was going to be, when they were going to come back and what it was going to take for them to get back into the swing of things. God made provision for all of that.

For example, I have never made it a secret that I had no intentions on being an artist one day, much less a career artist. I begrudgingly stuck to my art major because God wouldn't let me out of it, but I didn't bother learning a lot of the basics. I memorized what I needed to know long enough for me to get a good grade and then discarded the information once I passed the class. Fast forward a few years to me embracing my art and wanting to take it to the next level. I quickly realized there was a lot of basic things about painting I couldn't remember and was now going to have to reteach myself. Welcome to Youtube University. Every now and then I want to beat myself up because I felt like this was just stuff I should know already having graduated with an art degree. However, I'm quick to remind myself where I was mentally at the time. I wasn't trying to learn those things because I wasn't trying to be an artist. Not only that, I've now got plenty of resources to help me relearn what I was supposed to learn and learn stuff I never even knew about. The point I'm trying to make is that while we were taking our sweet time committing to our craft full time, God was behind the scenes setting up things and placing people and opportunities down our timelines. By the time you and I finally came back to what we put down or took forever to pick up, everything we needed to know and have was ready.

What does any of this have to do with GPS? The success of destiny is a lot like GPS. It doesn't matter how many wrong turns or detours you make, your GPS is going to keep rerouting you until you get to your destination. Not to mention, in many cases, God is the one who planned your hiatus. Think about your GPS. It's always scanning for the shortest route, but it will reroute you if detects an accident or a roadblock somewhere. Sometimes your hiatus was to avoid future accidents or running into situations that would have done serious long term damage to you. That hiatus might have actually saved you some time because if you hadn't rerouted you would just be stuck in traffic. There is not a soul on this planet that likes to sit in traffic, especially that unnecessary "could you stay in your lane", "why do you even have a license", "please push the button under your foot" traffic.

If you're still not convinced, that you're not behind, remember God doesn't waste your experiences. There is a lesson and/or wisdom behind everything that happens in your life. Whether it was a wrong turn on your part or a planned detour on God's part, either way you are coming back to your craft with more wisdom than before.  So don't let the enemy bog you down with lies about being behind. The way God's calendar is set up, you are right on time and there's plenty more to do what He created you to do.
